Waterford Hospice was founded in 1988 (in our 30th year) with the purpose of delivering Palliative Care on a Home Care basis to those in need in Waterford City, County and South Kilkenny. It is a voluntary organisation and a registered charity.
Home Care Service
Our annual operating budget is €700K, €280K of which is funded by the H.S.E. A small army of loyal and dedicated supporters raise the balance of €400K approx. – the equivalent of nearly €8K every week of the year.
New Palliative Care Unit for Waterford & South East
We have pledged €6M towards the building of a dedicated 20 bed Palliative Care Unit on the grounds of University Hospital Waterford for the south east and so far we have raised €4.5m which leave €1.5m still to be raised. The building commenced in April 2017 and we expect completion toward the last quarter of 2018 then we will have a state of the art Palliative Care Unit that will open in 2019. Our Home Care service will still be maintained in Waterford and South Kilkenny as normal.
How you can help
In March 2018 we launched a new campaign called Buy a Brick to raise the final €1.5m towards this much needed unit for The South East. You can purchase a brick on our website www.waterfordhospice.ie/buyabrick or by contacting our office 051 844847 for a Buy A Brick leaflet which you can dedicate to the memory of a dear departed family member, work colleague or friend.
With the continued help, dedication and commitment of the people of The South East we are confident that we can reach our goal of raising the Final €1.5m to provide a facility that will give both patients and relatives the dignity, care and privacy they deserve.
